Privacy policy

Who we are

Our company name is Electronic Bodyguards Ltd (usually referred to as “EBG” in documentation and logo), and we are in the process of relocating and setting up an entire new infrastructure, details of which will be made public once it is live and security screened.

This website’s address is https://electronicbodyguards.com, although https://ebguards.com saves typing and will also work.

Principles

We protecting personal privacy as a right and business confidentiality as critical to the maximum extent possible under law and technology.  We thus also protect any personal information that we receive, including that collected by our public presence, legally as well as technically, and as a matter of ethics.

Pragmatically, collecting personal data also establishes a duty of care and liability, so a sparse approach to data collection is in our own interest.

We reserve the right to collect data on site misuse and attempted security breaches for potential followup, including but not limited to legal means.

This public site sits isolated on the Internet and will not be linked to any production facilities and service platforms.  Any information entered on, for instance, web contact forms is immediately transmitted and then removed – we do not keep personal information on any public site as a matter of policy.

Any personal data we retain will be handled with the highest degree of care, it is our business.  Please forgive us if we sometimes ask for extra verification before we engage with you, support needs to assure your information remains safe, and staff will not have access to any records until we have positively established your identity.

Please note that minors too have a legal, separate right to privacy.  We are unable to divulge any personal information to guardians or parents without a minor’s explicit permission – it is the law!  Guardians and parents are encouraged to provide us with a permission form from minors which enable us to share information in case of emergency.

What data we collect, and why

Site visit information

For every visit of a web page, web browsers automatically provide information to, for instance, ensure a webpage is displayed.  This information is logged by the website server software.  In addition, the server logs any attempt to access a page that does not exist (for instance, to try to breach the site).

This information is used to assess website performance, identify possible broken links, and identify attempts to breach the site which we may act upon.

Typically, visit data includes the IP address from where you access the site, and which browser and which Operating System you use.

Statistics

We gather information about which pages are visited and for how long, but not by whom other than when attempts are detected to breach the site. These statistics are either locally generated or transmitted to our own Matomo based statistics server.  This not only ensures compliance with EU GDPR, but which also respects Do Not Track settings: if enabled, a visit will not be registered other than when attempts are detected to breach the site.

Any links to social media and other sites will always be free of tracking elements.  Please note that this absence of tracking does not extend to any links found in any discussion areas on the site as those are provided by third parties.  Also note that visiting another site makes you subject to whatever tracking mechanisms are present on that site, we have no control over that.

Cookies

The site may place cookies on your browser to facilitate a better viewing experience, and one cookie to remember your visit for statistics.  Deleting those cookies causes no harm, and the tracking cookie will not be picked up again if your browser has been set to Do Not Track.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name (or pseudonym), email address and website in cookies. These are solely for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will automatically expire after a year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Data entered on web forms

When you fill in any web form that requires a response, your contact details will be retained by the receiving CRM system  – each web form will indicate exactly what is stored and why.  We will not use your information for marketing unless you have explicitly allowed us to, but may retain your details where required for legal, compliance or customer relations reasons.  Please note: NO data is ever retained on systems that directly interact with the Internet.

Third party content

Site discussions and comments when enabled

Discussions and forums on site are made by third parties.  Forum rules prohibit  disclosure of personal details unless permitted by the individual involved. So-called doxxing, for instance, is expressly forbidden, can lead to a site ban and can result in further legal consequences for the submitter.

In case you find any personal information disclosed on a forum, please contact us and we will remove it as soon as we can.

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection and prevent abuse.

External links

We cannot take responsibility for external websites, but we endeavour to remove any tracking information in links we post.  We also avoid link shorteners such as https://bit.ly because we believe you should be able to see where a link will go you before you click on it.  That said, we have our own link shortening facility – links starting with https://phx.li are safe and generally lead to larger documents.

Although we minimise this, articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).  Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website, with all associated potential privacy exposure such as Facebook buttons with tracking code and embedded Google Analytics.

These third party websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website as they may be based in a jurisdiction where this is legal, even without first solliciting your permission.

Where we retain personal data

Personal data is retained exclusively in Europe and Switzerland.  We do not condone the export of personal information to nations with lesser legal protection of personal online privacy, and this is also part of contracts and Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) we have with our clients and our supply chain.

No third parties handle personal data on our behalf

At present we have no third parties contracted to handle personal data.  We will update this statement if this changes.

Any third party handling personal data on our behalf will be required to subscribe to the same principles as described here, will be contractually obliged to prove its compliance and will be subject to the same NDAs and audits as our other suppliers.

Where to go for further information

If you require more information, have questions about this privacy policy or would like to exercise your rights, please bear with us as we are in the process of moving the organisation to another jurisdiction.
